Admissions COVID-19 Updates

The U.S. Air Force Academy is currently open to visitors. All visitors, regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear masks indoors, at all times.

Admissions has resumed select in-person outreach efforts and is now offering in-person tours and is still hosting virtual events, such as tours and Q & A sessions, and the opportunity to see the campus on a self-guided Windshield Tour. The health and safety of prospective students, their families and our staff is paramount.

Throughout the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Air Force Academy Admissions will post regular updates to this site to ensure the most up-to-date information about our programs is available in one location.

COVID-19 Admissions FAQ

Do I need a COVID-19 vaccine?

USAFA Admissions currently has no requirement for Applicants or Candidates for appointment to USAFA to be vaccinated for COVID-19.  USAFA Admissions recommends you consider CDC guidance, your state and local government direction relative to COVID-19 vaccinations, and all other pertinent factors in making your COVID-19 vaccination decision.

If you are appointed to USAFA or selected to attend the USAFA Preparatory School, you will be notified of the DoD and Air Force COVID-19 vaccine policy/requirements existing at that time, given directions relative to vaccination requirements and arrival instructions for USAFA, and you will be provided an opportunity to request an exemption to that policy, if required, at that time.

Can I visit the Academy campus and get a tour?

USAFA is currently open to visitors. All visitors, regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear a mask while indoors at all times. We are currently offering in-person, virtual and self-guided Windshield Tours of areas of interest on base.

How will standardized tests and test score submissions to the U.S. Air Force Academy be affected by COVID-19?

We have updated our process to allow you to submit your Pre-Candidate Questionnaires (PCQ) using PACT or PSAT scores if you have not been able to complete testing due to COVID- 19 restrictions. We have updated our process to allow you to submit your Pre-Candidate Questionnaires (PCQ) without standardized test scores if you have not been able to complete testing due to COVID- 19 restrictions. If you are entered into the candidate phase, know that official SAT or ACT scores will be required. We recommend you register for an upcoming test date this fall. If you continue to have issues scheduling or taking either test, please contact your Admissions Counselor for answers to your specific questions.

With AP testing canceled, how will I validate classes without College Board scores?

There is the opportunity to validate certain U.S. Air Force Academy classes depending on the score of the AP test. During your first week at the Academy, you will take placement exams in general chemistry and foreign language. These exams will determine whether we can give you validation credit or place you in advanced or accelerated courses. If you have completed a college course, completed a high school course at college level or have special preparation through self-study, you may attempt to validate other subjects by exam.

Will the Academy offer any virtual meetings or interviews?

The U.S. Air Force Academy Admissions currently offers virtual tours and Q & A sessions and the opportunity for prospective cadet-candidates and their families to access campus to engage in a self-guided Windshield Tour of areas of interest on base.

My doctor’s office is not making appointments in person due to COVID-19, they are only doing telehealth appointments unless it is an emergency. I need a body fat waiver. What should I do?

Please reach out and ask your counselor for the best course of action for your specific case. These are unique times, and your counselor is the available expert to help you out.
